MovieTown is your home for revival cinema

Every month we spotlight the best 35mm screenings, repertory programs, and microcinema gems across Los Angeles and beyond.
From the New Beverly and the Frida Cinema to Whammy! Analog, the Academy Museum, American Cinematheque, and Video Archives, MovieTown celebrates the theaters and programmers who make this city one of the best places in the world to watch movies.
Something different
We’re in a golden age of moviegoing, just not at the multiplex with its 30 minutes of ads and endless trailers. Instead, it’s happening in places where someone like you steps in front of the audience to share why they love what’s about to screen.
It happens where people stay long after the credits to talk films with strangers, where popcorn and drink prices end in a zero instead of a nine, and where cinema feels truly alive again.
Beyond the recs
What began in 2025 as a monthly list of recommendations has grown into MovieTown: a zine, long-form YouTube episodes, filmmaker and programmer interviews, and occasional street documentary.
Through MovieTown, I hope to connect film lovers with screenings they might otherwise miss, while building a community around the theaters and keeping classic and cult cinema alive.
Whether you’re a lifelong cinephile or just discovering repertory film, I hope you find something here worth showing up for.
